  RUSH | Pledging

Everyone who accepts an invitation to pledge will be placed into a pledge class.  The pledging process lasts for eight weeks and concludes just before finals.  During this period pledges will be introduced to a multitude of new friends and fraternity members, while working as a group to organize four events that emulate the operations of the larger chapter. These events include:

  • One Professional Activity – The pledge class will coordinate one professional event (speakers, corporate tour, etc) of their choice.
  • One Community Service Project – The pledge class will plan a community service project of their choice.
  • One Social – The pledge class plans a party that is held at the end of the process to celebrate their accomplishments.
  • Fundraising – The pledge class is expected to support itself, like the chapter does, through fundraising.  Fundraising will cover all the expenses the pledge class incurs.

Each week you will also have a set number of interviews to conduct with Brothers in the Fraternity. Interviews provide an excellent resource for you to receive continuous feedback on your progress and pledging efforts while also focusing on resume building and interviewing skills.

What Kind of Time Commitment Is This?

This is a very common question and the general response is that the pledging process is equivalent to a part-time job.  However, every Brother who postponed pledging for a semester because of a heavy schedule regrets not getting involved sooner. The experience is completely manageable on a full schedule and the time commitment is largely based on how efficiently the leaders in your pledge class can get the group to operate.  Most of our pledges have maintained good grades and a good number have even held jobs or internships while pledging.

Seems a Little Overwhelming?

The process can certainly seem overwhelming at first but the Fraternity is there to help you succeed.  The pledging program is highly structured and evenly spread over the eight week process.  Furthermore, every pledge will be assigned a Big Bro who will help you and your pledge class succeed. The process will require hard work, but as any Brother will tell you, the commitment is well worth the reward.
